Endometriosis

Endometriosis can affect women differently. For some it can be extremely painful and for others, it can be only mildly uncomfortable. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining is found in places besides the uterine cavity. Diagnosis of endometriosis is usually done with a combination of a physical exam and patient’s symptoms. To confirm this diagnosis a doctor may have to look inside your body. This is done with a surgical procedure called laparoscopy. Endometriosis is usually treated with medication, surgery or both. Endometriosis can be the cause of infertility and sometimes the patient is not aware she has endometriosis until she cannot get pregnant.

Some women with endometriosis have many symptoms while others have only one symptom or none. Often women blame other causes for their symptoms, delaying diagnosis and treatment. Our physicians have experience in diagnosing and providing effective treatment for endometriosis.

Common symptoms are:

    • Pelvic pain
    • Pelvic pain with bowel movement
    • Pelvic pain with urination
    • Pelvic pain just before a menstrual cycle
    • Spotting between cycles
    • Pelvic pain with sexual intercourse
