Urinary incontinence can occur in men and women but most
commonly occurs in women. It affects 10-25% of women under age 65 and 15-30%
of women over 60. Urinary incontinence sufferers do not have to experience
symptoms all the time. More than half of the women with incontinence
symptoms do not tell their doctor due to embarrassment. Incontinence causes
can range from illness (i.e. urinary tract infection), neuromuscular
disorders, urinary tract abnormalities to pelvic support problems. There are
many modalities of treatment: special exercises, diet alteration,
medications, special devices (i.e. pessaries) and surgical repair. Our
physicians have experience with these treatment options as well as the
variety of tests available to diagnose each patient. We have the ability in
our office to perform urodynamic studies that are a valuable tool in
providing a patient with the best treatment possible.
